Prempro is a leading Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) medication, which combines estrogen and progestin into one medication. It was thought that HRT could reduce the risk of osteoporosis and heart complications in women, when first introduced. In reaction to the Prempro controversy, Wyeth has distributed new guidelines that warn against long-term use and has cut the drug's suggested dosage by half. Even more disturbing is the reality that the drug producer may fund many of the tests required by the FDA.
